about

The audio in this video is an excerpt from a speech given at a Black Lives Matter protest on June 19, 2020 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Joe Nice participated in and recorded a Black Lives Matter protest via Facebook Live on June 19, 2020 in Baltimore, Maryland. A police officer purposely backed into a parked vehicle carrying two other activists. The officer refused to speak to anyone, including the activists in the parked car.

The frustration of the activists grew, while the cop remained oblivious. One activist chanted, “Who’s Streets, Our Streets” for several minutes, which is part of the June 19th tune. Another activist commandeered a megaphone and voiced a list of demands to the police officer, while the cop showed no emotion nor response.

This protest took place on June 19th, which is now a federally recognized holiday in the United States called "Juneteenth", commemorating the emancipation of American descendants of enslaved Africans.

The coincidence of that date is not lost on anyone who participated in the protest or listens to this song. This tune represents the fights for humanity, freedom, equality and survival. This music is freedom music. It is music that represents our time and is a call to action. It is a call to defund the police. It is a call to divert resources from police into community resources, public health, and schools. It is also a call for community reinvestment and revitalization. It is a call for jobs that pay a living wage.

It is Joe Nice and Metafloor's sincere hope that this song inspires you to do something in your community. It is our desire that this song agitates something inside you and makes you think about the consequences of police militarization in the United States, Canada, and around the world. We hope this song speaks to you, and we believe this song is a teachable moment for anyone who listens to it.

Peace, love, and sincere thanks.
